Why (Even If I Told You Exactly How To) You Still Won’t Travel

Why (Even If I Told You Exactly How To) You Still Won’t Travel

I know how you can get out of the real world and start travelling, I have been telling you exactly how to get out from the very beginning. I have been giving you step by step instructions that I have learnt from personal experience in a multitude of different articles.

But I can bet everything I own (my laptop and this desk) that at least half of you reading this, maybe more, hopefully less, will simply read this article and think, that’s nice. They will then casually move back into the real world, into their real job and do absolutely nothing to implement these ideas, and will instead stay stuck in the real world.

Are you one of those people that have all these great ideas on how to get out the real world but do nothing about it? Do you, instead of implementing those ideas, the same ones that you know will work, simply think, that’s a good way, and go off to find a new article? Are you always trying to find new ideas on a subject that you already know how to overcome, always searching for that next article?

A lot of people will consciously say no, but unconsciously they are. So why, when we get all this great advice, which we can use to improve our situation, are we doing nothing to implement them in our life?

Mostly it’s our thoughts that end up stopping us and there are four main disabling thoughts that take over your brain.

First is the, “It works for them but it will never work for me” thought.

You know that it will work, but your brain has stalled and instead of popping up with ideas on how to adjust it to your unique situation it instead flashes up with: DANGER WILL NOT WORK!

You can hide behind the ways the person telling you what to do differ; the most common one is nationality. For example you will say that it will never work for me because the person that wrote the article is American. This American had written about the how they escaped the real world through the Peace Corps, but you can’t follow that advice because the Peace Corps is a program only for Americans.

That’s all in your head, just because they have a different nationality doesn’t mean that you can’t take the basic underlying message and adjust it to your circumstances. In the example with the Peace Corps they are a program that takes you away to volunteer overseas for a couple of years. There are plenty of other programs out in the world that do exactly the same thing that you can find and suit to your own nationality.

If your brain is stuck in thinking that you can’t replicate something that happened to someone else, it just means you aren’t thinking hard enough.

Another one of the disabling thoughts that will stop you from escaping the real world even though you know exactly how is, “But I Don’t Want To Do It”.

You are kidding yourself and your brain is only latching onto that self delusion and making that false thought into something more, even adding fear onto the end as a powerful motivator to stay where you are.

Fear and fear of the unknown is a powerful force to keep you where you are now. You may hate where you are at the moment, but the thing is, it’s still more comfortable to stay where you are than face the idea that there really could be something better out there.

Not only that but you have the unconscious thought locked in your brain about how much you will regret but getting out early when you finally make a break for it. Then that fear of regret and lost time will only make it harder to leave because you want to hold of the inevitable regret. All these tumbling thoughts just make sure the at you never go anywhere so to hold off the crippling realisation that you could have been happy years ago.

Yes when that thought finally hits you, it can be crippling, but the idea is the sooner you get it over with the better. Just like ripping off a band-aid, to further comfort you if you can it over quickly you can always take the immediate thought that at least I’m out here and I’m really doing it. An although it’s not the nicest thought, you can always think of the people still at home doing the same old thing while you are out on your adventure.

But the thing is a lot of the time “I don’t want to do it” isn’t about fear itself, sure that’s the big ugly thing standing in front of you, but most of the time it’s really just a front covering the negative thought pattern behind it.

You tell yourself that you don’t really want to go when you really do, and it may seem totally insane but those negative thought can be so much more comforting than realising that you should have done this years ago. So you stick with those negative thoughts, put fear in front of it, so you never have to have that double realisation that you should have done it years ago and you were really hiding behind negative thoughts all the time.

Sure intellectually we may like to think that negative thoughts aren’t something that we enjoy, and hide behind instead of going after what we want, but think about it.

When you start trying to think positively all the time, it’s a struggle, you constantly have to banish the negative thoughts out of your mind, and it’s like standing in the middle of a field trying to protect yourself from every angle.

Then even if only one negative thought tackles you it can break your happy mood and you spill down into the negative thought pattern. That negative thought pattern is easy, it just keep feeding off itself. You don’t have to do anything because it is a rare positive thought that could actually lift you back out of your negative thought pattern so you don’t have to stand open in that field.

You won’t travel even if I tell you exactly how because “My partner won’t let me”

You won’t use the information that I give you because you believe that “It Works For Them But It Will Never Work For Me” and “I Don’t Want To Do It Anyway”, okay sure those thoughts may be disabling and I can understand them for a semi logical stand point. But are you telling me straight up that the sole reason that you aren’t living your dream and using the information that will no doubt make you a better person inside and outside is because, your partner won’t let you.

Wow, okay that’s a lot to take in, and its complete rubbish. If they really think that they won’t let you, why are you still with them? Hate to be blunt, but a person that doesn’t want you to be happy, is someone you don’t want to be with.

Commonly this is all in your head anyway as the real world tries to take over your mind. In the end what has happened is that you have projected the thought that your partner won’t let you travel onto to them. Then in the strange way that the real world works your partner has picked up that thought and can do nothing but take that thought into being and act on it.

Which in the end only shows that you are so undecided, and against going after something that you so desperately want, that you have convinced yourself that it’s not your fault that you aren’t living your dreams, it’s someone else’s.

Well bravo, you have managed to offload your personal problems to be some else’s, that’s a skill, not only will you never live your dreams you have your very own scapegoat as well.

“I have a house/pet/ husband that they didn’t, my circumstances are different to them”.

Circumstances are inconsequential. So you have an extra person with you or you don’t, that’s never the problem. The problem is you are still using hanging in your negative thoughts, but this time you have gone one point beyond, and are now adding more excuses onto the reason why you don’t want to use the information so readily available for your own gain.

There are a wide number of excuses to use but what it all boils down to is the fact that you are scared shitless. Doing a new thing, actually using information that might help you scares you, you don’t want to change because change is unknown and a lot of people have been conditioned to think that the unknown is the biggest fear in the world. Think about it, death is the biggest unknown and a lot of people are scared of that it and really it just goes backwards from there.

It’s all about your thoughts, not only do you have the negative pattern you are using excuses and in the end the only thing that you end up with is unfulfilled dreams.

So are you going to use this article and realise that yes a lot of this does apply to you and resolve to fix that? Or are you going to think that’s nice and move on and try to find the next idea?

If your answer is simply that’s nice, please keep reading and reconsider. I would hate to waste all this time writing this so that you can go away and done nothing to put you back on track.

But how exactly should you get on track? What should you do now?

First off realise that yes, while other people do extraordinary things, it’s doesn’t mean that you can’t as well, underneath all those layers and stories those people are just like everyone else. If you really don’t think that you can do it, email that person, talk to them, figure out what got them to where they are aside from the fabulous advice they are giving you. Get the real back story so you can truly see how even you can do that.

What about the “I don’t want to do it” factor? Realise that you are only kidding yourself, you know it, I know it, and the buggler down the street knows it. The sooner you fully realise that, the sooner you actually get on track and really start down your own track. Then one day soon you will be writing the articles and looking back while having some young punk come up and ask how it was possible. Think about how that moment alone will be worth all the hard yards.

So then how do you deal with the negatives thoughts? Much has been written about the subject but for me again, this is just personally it may not work for you, I read as many travel articles, blogs newsletters as I can so that I can silence the negative voice. I try not to pay attention to it at all because I believe that the more you focus on those negative thoughts, the worse they get. These thoughts are constantly on an infinity loop and you can get out of it because each thought keeps feeding on itself again and again, which honestly I think is how depression can get started.

So ignore them like you would ignore that person you hate to talk to, you may not began to feel positive just at the snap of a hat but hopefully you should feel less negative. If this approach doesn’t work for you, then you can always read the many books about negative thoughts and try and beat it by intelligent thoughts – which is quite fun imagery.

Finally realise that the only thing holding you back is you. Don’t cough and splutter you are only wasting a lot more time, accept it move on and just get out there.
